UFC Betting: Breaking Down The Best Bets For The UFC 191 Main Card

The UFC will make its return to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with an absolutely loaded main card for the UFC 191 event. UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will put his title on the line against John Dodson in a rematch of their UFC on Fox fight back in January of 2013 and while Johnson won the first round between these two he might not be the best bet this time around. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for the UFC 191 main card.

UFC Flyweight Championship Bout
(22-2-1) Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson (17-6-0)

Johnson and Dodson went the full five rounds in their first fight with the Might Mouse pulling out the unanimous decision win despite getting knocked off his feet twice in the early rounds. Johnson’s stamina was the difference in the fourth and fifth rounds when he was able to wear Dodson down but the challenger has worked his way in to better shape over the past couple of years and he has won three straight fights since that loss to Johnson in order to become the No. 1 contender. The longer this tilt goes on the more it will likely favor the champion but Dodson has already proven he has the punching power to knock him off his feet and there is no guarantee this rematch goes the distance. The fact that Johnson is listed as a -400 favorite according to some sportsbooks gives us even more reason not to bet on him to win this fight. The best bet is actually on the challenger Dodson to win this fight as a +355 long shot that we can make a small play on knowing he has the potential to come out on top in this rematch.

Pick: John Dodson +355

UFC Heavyweight Bout
(24-10-0) Andrei Arlovski vs. Frank Mir (18-9-0)

The co-main event for this UFC 191 card will feature a pair of former UFC Heavyweight champions going head-to-head in a brawl that will absolutely have the potential for fireworks. Just when it looked like Mir was on his way out of the UFC he bounced back with consecutive knockout wins over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee to get back on track following four straight losses but this might be too much to ask of him. Arlovski has won five straight fights including consecutive knockout wins over Silva and Travis Browne to climb to No. 4 in the UFC heavyweight rankings and one more win could put him in the conversation to challenge for the No. 1 contender spot in the division.

Pick: Andrei Arlovski -175

UFC Light Heavyweight Bout
(19-5-0) Anthony Johnson vs. Jimi Manuwa (15-1-0)

Johnson tapped out against Daniel Cormier with the UFC Light Heavyweight championship on the line but he had absolutely dominated the rest of the division in order to earn that title shot and it will be a major surprise if he doesn’t bounce back with a win over the veteran Manuwa who at least on paper appears to be completely overmatched heading in to this tilt.

Pick: Anthony Johnson -500

UFC Light Heavyweight Bout
(18-4-0) Jan Blachowicz vs. Corey Anderson (5-1-0)

Blachowicz knocked out Ilir Latifi in his UFC debut but he followed that up with a unanimous decision loss to Manuwa and will be in tough in this bout. The 25-year-old Anderson had won five straight fights before he was knocked out by Glan Villante in his last fight and while we haven’t seen enough out of him to feel comfortable putting too much money on him to win we don’t mind making a small play on him as the underdog looking for the upset victory in this bout.

Pick: Corey Anderson +140

UFC Women’s Strawweight Bout
(5-1-0) Paige VanZant vs. Alex Chambers (5-2-0)

VanZant is coming off consecutive wins over Kailin Curran and Felice Herrig and has an excellent opportunity to extend her run against the veteran Chambers in this bout. This fight was drawn up as the perfect stepping stone for the 21-year-old VanZant to provide something to talk about in the women’s strawweight division and while it’s not exactly worth betting on her to win this bout it would be a major shock if she didn’t extend her current win streak when she takes on Chambers at UFC 191.

Pick: Paige VanZant -1500
