NASCAR Betting: The Best Bets For The Daytona 500

It seems like only yesterday that Kyle Busch won his first Sprint Cup championship. Now the start of the 2016 NASCAR season is only weeks away and the anticipation is building towards the biggest race of the season. Unlike the other major sports, NASCAR’s first event is its biggest event in the Daytona 500. Every driver will admit they would like to win the Daytona 500 at some point in their career and all eyes will be on the “World Center of Racing” once again on Sunday February 21st. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for the Daytona 500.

About The Track

Daytona is all about speed and that’s what it will take to win. The repaved track won’t lose grip like the old surface did but it is still very narrow and that will put extra pressure on the spotters to be on point. Turn 2 has always been the most difficult to navigate because of how tight it is and that will be the case again this year. A fast car, experience at the track and a good drafting partner are among the biggest keys to winning but it’s also important to remember that it is plate track so timing is also among the biggest keys.

Consensus Best Bet To Win Outright: Joey Logano +1000

Joey Logano is the defending Daytona 500 champion and the best bet on the board to win again this year heading in to what could be a championship season. Logano has everything it takes to challenge for a Sprint Cup championship this season but he needs to prove that he can work better with his peers and be a little more patient. Logano learned that lesson the hard way in 2015 and at 25-years-old the expectation is that he will be wiser and more mature. Logano is listed behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson in terms of the betting favorites to win this race outright but he could very well be No. 1 on that list. Logano proved his ability when he won the Daytona 500 a year ago and he is the consensus best bet to repeat in 2016 at decent +1000 odds.

Consensus Best Bet To Finish Top-Five: Kevin Harvick

Kevin Harvick is also listed at +1000 odds to win the Daytona 500 outright and he should be a lock to finish in the top five. Harvick’s inability to find the winner circle came back to haunt him last season but he led all drivers with 23 top-five finishes including a runner-up finish to Logano at the Daytona 500 and his overall consistency was pretty remarkable. That consistency is the biggest reason why Harvick enters 2016 as the betting favorite to win his second Sprint Cup title and it’s the reason why we consider him the obvious consensus best bet to finish in the top-five at the 2016 Daytona 500 with Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Kenseth among the other notable options.
