MLS Betting: The 3 Best Games To Wager On This Weekend

There will be no shortage of important storylines to follow down the final stretch of the 2015 MLS regular season especially with so many key contests featuring teams that are contending for playoff positions. DC United stands alone atop the Eastern Conference but they will face a tough test against the second-place New York Red Bulls this weekend and only five points separates second from fifth in the standings. Meanwhile in the Western Conference, only five points separates third from seventh with a couple of crucial matchups this weekend featuring teams in the thick of that race. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for this weekend’s three most highly anticipated MLS games.

Houston Dynamo vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Saturday, 9:00 PM ET
MLS Odds: Colorado -101, Houston +262, Draw +231

Vancouver moved past a tough collapse against Sporting Kansas City with an important 1-0 win over FC Dallas and has now won four of its last five matches to gain some separation in second place in the Western Conference. The Whitecaps will continue their pursuit of the LA Galaxy at the top of the table on Saturday but it won’t be easy against a Houston team that is desperate to close in on a playoff position. The Dynamo allowed a crucial two points to get away from them in a 2-2 draw at Portland but they have played well at home this season and will need at least a point in this matchup. Look for Houston to keep the Whitecaps attack in check and push for a late goal with a chance to earn an absolutely crucial three points.

Pick: Draw

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers
Sunday, 4:30 PM ET

After finally ending their five-game losing skid with a convincing 4-0 win over Orlando City SC the Sounders ended up right back in the loss column with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake. Now Seattle will attempt to bounce back at home against a streaking Portland team that is undefeated in its last four games and it certainly won’t be easy to end that run. The Sounders have the potential to be a serious playoff team but they can’t keep allowing games to slip from their grasp and in particular at home where they continue to make far too many mistakes. Things will get tougher for the Timbers against an actual playoff team and with key points on the line it won’t be a surprise if both teams played a little tighter in Seattle.

Pick: Draw

New York Red Bulls vs. DC United
Sunday, 7:00 PM ET

The top two teams in the Eastern Conference are set to clash on Sunday night and now would be as good a time as any for DC United to snap its two-game mini slide. DC lost just one of its first 10 games but has since dropped eight of its last 17 including the last two against teams outside of the playoff line and now things will get a lot tougher this week when they visit the streaking Red Bulls. New York is undefeated in its last six games including consecutive wins over rivals NYCFC and Toronto FC by a combined 5-0 score in its last two outings and they should have no problem continuing their impressive run against a DC United team that is trending in the wrong direction heading in to this showdown.

Pick: New York Red Bulls
