Even with the group winners being kept apart, the matchups for the Champions League Round of 16 offer plenty of intrigue and storylines worth paying close attention. Here is a look at the four best matchups for the Champions League Round of 16.PSG vs. Chelsea
Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea will meet in the Champions League knockout stage for the third year in a row and this matchup has all of the makings of another classic. Only away goals have separated these teams the past two seasons and this could be the most difficult matchup to predict once again. The defending Premier League champions have had a rough season at home. They have shown flashes of their potential since Jose Mourinho was fired as manager but they will be in tough as they look for redemption from last year’s loss to PSG in the Round of 16. PSG looks stronger on paper than they did a year ago at this time with better health and the addition of Angel di Maria making the difference. The past history between these teams indicates this could be another classic but it looks as though PSG is the more likely side to advance.Arsenal vs. Barcelona
Arsenal couldn’t have asked for a more difficult draw after finishing second in its group. The Gunners have been eliminated in the Round of 16 in five straight Champions League tournaments and now they face another extremely tough test matched up against Barcelona. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have been absolutely dominant both at home in La Liga and in the Champions League and they will really put the pressure on Arsenal’s back line. Barcelona has already eliminated Arsenal twice in the last six seasons as well as back in the 2006 final. However, the Gunners aren’t about to back down and this should be one of the most entertaining matchups of the Round of 16.Juventus vs. Bayern Munich
This is another very intriguing matchup on paper as Bayern Munich has clearly arrived as a legitimate super power in Europe while Juventus always seems to find a way to contend in the Champions League The Serie A side made it all the way to the Champions League final before ultimately losing to Barcelona and it’s clear they won’t be intimidated. There is no doubt that Pep Guardiola’s Bayern side deserves to be the favorite and should ultimately prevail but look for the underdog Juventus side to give them all that they can handle and make this an entertaining matchup.Dynamo Kiev vs. Manchester City
Manchester City will be thrilled to avoid another Round of 16 matchup with Barcelona. City was eliminated by Barca in each of the last two Champions League tournaments but they still have to be wary of this year’s opponent. Dynamo Kiev finished well ahead of Porto to make the Round of 16 for the first time since 2000 and they won’t want their impressive run to end just yet. There is no doubt that City is the more talented team but they have struggled with consistency both at home in the Premier League and in the Champions League so this matchup could very well end up being a lot tighter than some of experts have predicted it will be.
